Ski Resort Information

White sport paradise and cradle of mountaineering worldwide. The Zermatt resort, located in the Swiss canton of Wallis, is a domain comprising 360 kilometers of tracks in three distinct regions: Sunnegga-Rothorn, with sunny slopes for all levels; Gornergrat-Stockhorn, with medium and high-level tracks; And Schwarzsee and Matterhorn, the largest ski area in the resort, also known as Glacier Paradise, which contains the most attractive and difficult slopes, as well as having a direct connection to the Italian resort of Cervinia. Zermatt is undoubtedly one of the most legendary resorts in the world of skiing and is positioned as the highest in Europe thanks to the Matterhorn peak, reaching 4,478m, where you can say that ascending is almost as attractive as descending. It has an immense ski area, as well as the second largest vertical drop with the world's largest ski-lift. But undoubtedly one of the best features Zermatt can boast is to open its doors 365 days a year, where even during the warm months you can enjoy skiing on the Theodul glacier with 21 kilometers of pistes and guaranteed snow. Perhaps for this reason the prophecy has spread among ski lovers that warns that: "A skier does not know the Alps until he has skied in Zermatt". The resort also offers ample possibilities for stunt and freestyle snowboarders in its 2,939-meter Trockener Steg snowpark, where Olympic medalists often train. Zermatt is also a tourist destination all year round, with numerous possibilities for non-skiers and a great variety of places to enjoy "Glühwein" or "Schnaps", to stroll or to browse in the shops. In fact, the village of Zermatt, located at 1620m, is an attraction in itself with typical Swiss high mountain houses and surrounded by spectacular peaks. Another thing to note is that non-electric cars are prohibited, and so you are guaranteed peace and tranquillity in this village. The best area to stay is near the resort as you can walk to the slopes of Sunegga and Gornergrat and to the main street. Access to Kl. Matterhorn is about 15 minutes from here.
